New Features of Bragg and Non-Polarized Radar Backscattering from Film Slicks on the Sea Surface

Suppression of radar backscattering from the sea surface has been studied in field experiments with surfactant films carried out an Oceanographic Platform on Black Sea and onboard a research vessel Gorky Water Reservoir using X-C-S-band two co-polarized instrument. Bragg non-polarized (non-Bragg) backscatter components, BC NBC, respectively, were retrieved when measuring at vertical (VV-) horizontal (HH-) polarizations. New features microwave have revealed, including non-monotonic dependence suppression (contrasts) slicks azimuth angle particularities contrasts wave number. Namely, it is demonstrated that achieve maximum values angles between upwind crosswind look directions, increase number along wind decrease directions.
